African American Heritage Club The African American Heritage Club is a chartered club in Sun City Anthem. Our mission is to sponsor and supports group activities designed to preserve African American culture, heritage, and values, by promoting fellowship, unity, diversity, and awareness through cultural and social events. 2023 Sun City Anthem African American Heritage Club Officers: President -Bernita Glenn Vice President – Stephanie Lyons-Jones Treasurer – Ellen Bell Secretary – Brenda Jennings Please come and meet the new Board members and receive news on our upcoming events. The AAHC's 1st General Membership Meeting will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. in the Anthem Center -Delaware Room. Our first event for the new year is the celebration of Black History Month scheduled for February 25, 2023 at the Independence Center. The Planning Committee is hard at work to ensure the celebration is full of activities that will enlighten and entertain. Come out to hear the plans. The African American Heritage Club is looking forward in 2023 to the following events: 1. Black History Month Event – February 25, 2023 Independence Center 2. White Party Event - May 20, 2023 3. Welcome Back Event – October 21, 2023 4. NYE Event – December 29, 2023 If you would like to volunteer, contact a board member at aahc.presbg@gmail.com. The Planning Committee has contracted with Soul Food Cafe LLC as our caterer for the Black History Month event. The menu will consist of a 3pc fried chicken dinner which will includes leg, wing, boneless thigh, yams, collard greens and cornbread. The cost of the dinner is $18.00 if purchased on the day of the event. On Wednesday, February 8 and 15th from 10:00 a.m. until noon, a committee member will be in the lobby next to the fitness center so that you can pre-pay for your meal. The cost of the pre-paid dinner is $16.00 cash or check. You can purchase your ticket tomorrow at the meeting. 4. New Business Bernita Glenn a. Scheduled Events 1. Jazz Age (Roaring Twenties) - May 27, 2023 2. Fall Ball – October 21, 2023 3. Kwanzaa Ball– December 29, 2023 b. Unscheduled Suggested Events 1. Golf Outing - Also, please come prepared to discuss, and vote for or against a Golf Tournament this year: Continue building on the successful momentum of the last two years and, hopefully, one day make the tournament a full blown fundraiser to support a designated charity OR Scale back to a non-competitive "members only" and invited guest event with a BBQ to follow OR No golf outing for 2023. 2. Tickets go on sale today, January 1, 2024 for the Black History Film Festival. Our 1st Black History FIlm Festival will begin on February 1st with the showing of "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner". One film will be presented each week, February 1, 8, 15 & 29th at 3:00 p.m. in the newly renovated Freedom Hall Theatre. The link below can be used to purchase tickets or you can purchase tickets in the Activities Office. Members have first dibs on tickets during the week of January 1st. Tickets will be open to the community on January 8th. To ensure the best seating, reserve your seats early.
